Your Bellaire Neighbor. Your Bellaire Voice
Native Texan, Military Service
I am Texas born and raised, who grew up in Brownsville, Corpus Christi, and Dallas. I come from a family of military service and I enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 18. During my enlistment, I was appointed to the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland by Senator Lloyd Bentsen. Upon graduation, I was commissioned as an U.S. Naval Officer where I trained and flew as a pilot at multiple duty stations.
In 1998, I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin’s Graduate School of Business, where I focused on computational finance and entrepreneurship. After my military service, I joined Entergy Power Marketing Corp where I traded and marketed power and gas in the US, UK, South America, Europe, and Australia out of offices in London, Sydney, and Houston. In 2001, I was named President of a Reliant subsidiary focused on preparing market mechanisms required for Reliant’s P&L units to succeed under deregulation.
From 2003 to 2015 I founded several REP’s including Vega Resources, LLC, d/b/a “Amigo Energy,” where as President & CEO I assembled the team and systems required to grow from just an idea to serving over 200,000 customers. In 2007 I signed a 4-year $7M partnership agreement to be the Houston Dynamo’s Inaugural Jersey Sponsor, bringing the team badly-needed funding, marketing, and charitable community partnerships, and awareness in both traditional and Hispanic communities.
During that time, the HHCC also named me Houston's Emerging Businessman of the Year. In 2015, I turned my efforts to emerging Mexican markets and power resiliency while working in various roles including Managing Director of Essentia, LP, and Executive Vice President of Acclaim Energy. Today, I work as part of the RPower LLC team bringing power resiliency solutions to commercial electricity customers, where I am the Chief Operating Officer (COO).
I am a proud father of 3 and have been married for over 20 years. I have passionately studied Braes Bayou flooding since 2001 having lived steps from the bayou in Southern Oaks before moving to Southdale’s Lafayette Street in 2013.
I have many hobbies including fine woodworking, but I enjoy quietly volunteering my handy skills and time to fellow Bellaire citizens who find themselves in need. I have a passion for sports and my wife and I have provided major competitive youth development league sponsorships to identify promising talent in the remote and underprivileged South Texas communities of our youth.
I earned a BS from the US Naval Academy at Annapolis, and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin. I was medically retired from the US Navy as a Lieutenant and awarded Disabled Veteran status due to injuries sustained in the line of duty.
